We dwell in houses, neighbourhoods, and cities, but we also dwell in things like photographs and memories. We inhabit these mental images located amid our sensorial relations to the past and there we feel at home. The Cinnamon Hut (Apparition) was developed during the peak of the pandemic, which saw countries imposing social distancing, national lockdowns and travel bans, stirring anxiety among people and a collective sense of nostalgia. Nostalgia, not as much as longing for a distant past, but as a state of homesickness — the urgency to connect with one’s family and community, to feel safe and grounded, at home.
